On May 12-13, 2018, Imexpharm Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, in collaboration with the Health Department of Can Tho City, organized the 11th Mekong Delta Region Healthcare Tennis Tournament – Imexpharm Cup XI, 2018. The event featured friendly tennis matches among local leaders, fostering community engagement and promoting health awareness.
The tournament was held to celebrate the 128th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth (May 19, 1890 - 2018) and to welcome the upcoming 15th anniversary of Can Tho becoming a centrally governed city.
This tournament, a prominent, high-level professional sports event, consistently garners the attention of state leaders and healthcare officials across the Mekong Delta. Each year, it attracts numerous athletes, including doctors, pharmacists, healthcare staff, and distinguished guests from the region. Imexpharm, in cooperation with regional health departments, rotates the organization of this event, creating a platform for healthcare professionals to connect, share experience in both sport and work, and strengthen solidarity within the region.
This year’s tournament drew over 200 athletes, competing in various categories, including Men’s Doubles for Leaders, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, divided into two age groups: 45 and under, and 46 and over. Additionally, there were two new categories: Men’s Doubles for Provincial/City Leaders and Men’s Singles with no age restriction.
Initiated in 2007 in Dong Thap Province, the tennis tournament sponsored annually by Imexpharm has been hosted on a rotational basis by health departments in An Giang, Bac Lieu, Long An, Tien Giang, and others. Over time, it has consistently improved in competition quality, organization, and the number of participants and spectators, surpassing the expectations of the organizers and contributing to the promotion of sports, particularly tennis, throughout the region.
At the closing ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded First, Second, and Joint Third Place Cups for each category. The ceremony also featured the handover of the flag and a congratulatory announcement for the next host of the 12th Mekong Delta Region Healthcare Tennis Tournament – Imexpharm Cup 2019, to be organized by the An Giang Department of Health.
